Meet the Team
About me and the Project
The following are the aspects of the project in which I was most involved:
- High Level system design
- Graphical User Interface design/implementation
- General system integration
- All-round tinkerer and debugger
I usually apply myself to a broad field of understanding, both academic and practical. This has often proven to be my strongest trait, as it allows me to take aspects from a theoretical level,
truly understand them and apply that knowledge in the form of implementation. I also have the capacity (and curiosity) to fiddle with concepts and tools provided to me, in order to make sense
of them and assess their usage and possible implications, thus allowing me to come up with ideas based on my knowledge of the problem.
In essence, I like to think of myself as someone who is usually quite capable of contributing in many fields, keeping things together with ideas and practicality.
About me
My email:gerard.wyk@gmail.com
I chose this project because I love the field of Artificial Intelligence.
In this project my main contributions were:
- Implementation of optimisers.
- Implementation of the objective/fitness functions that the optimisers use.
- Implementation of the coordinate data storage and transfer system.
- Finding and fixing many bugs
- Creating the incredible project video.
Competitions I have taken part in:
- The World Robot Olympiad 2010 (participated)
- Smash the Hash 2015 (team Won!)
- Entelect AI challenge 2016 (participated)
In my spare time I read a diversity of books mostly related to science, play games(sometimes in a cutting edge virtual reality system), and toy around with genetic algorithms and neural networks.
About me
Description of Skills:
There were two areas of the project in which I was most involved would be:
1) High Level system design
2) Implementation of Optimisers.
When I say, high level system design, I was involved from the beginning in the architectural and design process which saw me design some of the aspects of the project. Those aspects would include the Optimiser hierarchy design as well as the specific design of the PSO specific components of the project. This would include implementation of these Optimisers in the system itself.
I think that the above statement really highlights the areas I feel my particular skills are strongest, namely: design and implementation of algorithmic system components. I have always been deeply fascinated by the field of artificial intelligence and that is why I elected to implement and design those systems. Beyond designing skills and abstract thinking, I do have a strong mathematical capacity and am able to reason about and solve complex problems and then realise the solutions in code.
Areas of Interest
As mentioned above, I am truly fascinated by the field of Artificial Intelligence, COS 314 was my favourite module of the degree, and it has me very curious about problem solving methodologies in general. Things like game analysis, understanding how to map real world behaviour to code systems and so on are things I do enjoy thinking about. Financial matters and subjects are of great interest to me and, since learning about the strange and mystical world of High Frequency Trading, I would say I am very much interested in learning more.
Preferred Contact Times
I generally will respond to emails within or two working days. If contacted in another format, I will try to answer any and all messages I receive from external message services as promptly as I am able. I do however, lag behind on the weekends so messages sent on Friday will probably only be answered by the following Monday at the earliest.
About me
Dude im all about that AI. Which is ironic since my primary role in this project was creating the graphical visualiser that turns the AI output into pretty pixels and making the slap dash website that this virtual demo required us to have. My favourite colour is purple. I nearly spelt colour in the american way, "color". Also ironic because one time when i was coding the shaders for the project i spent twenty minutes debug a graphical glitch and it turns out i just spelt gl_FragColor incorrectly. The fact that I'm sleeping in that picture (<--) is not indicative of my work ethic. Also, just so you know, that dog isnt mine. It just visited the commune that I live in one day and we became best friends for like 2 hours.
